A textured dial, small seconds at six, and a splash of orange bring new character to Citizen’s everyday-luxury Tsuyosa line.

The Tsuyosa collection has quickly become one of Citizen’s most talked-about releases, bringing an everyday-luxury feel at an accessible price point. The model I have on my wrist takes this line in a new direction: the Small Second NK5010-51X.

The first thing that stands out is the dial. Instead of a traditional sunray finish, Citizen went for a deeply textured surface that catches the light in different ways, giving the watch a more upscale presence. In daylight, the tones become even more vivid. The small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock instantly changes the character of the watch, while the orange hand adds energy and movement.

The bracelet and case finishing is surprisingly refined for this price range. The bracelet combines polished and brushed surfaces in a way that feels premium. The clasp is different from Citizen’s usual double-lock design: here we get a push-button deployant, slimmer and more elegant on the wrist.

On the wrist, proportions are well balanced: 40 mm diameter and around 11.7 mm thickness. The lug-to-lug length is slightly extended due to the solid end links, but the slim profile ensures it still fits under a cuff. It works both in casual and more formal settings.

Inside beats Citizen’s calibre 8322 automatic movement, delivering a power reserve of about 60 hours. This means you can take it off Friday evening and often find it still running on Monday morning. With its 21,600 vph frequency, the movement provides reliable performance in daily wear.

During my time with it, I found myself constantly glancing at the dial. The orange small seconds hand gives the watch a sense of life—almost like it’s breathing. It makes you want to look at it even when you already know the time.

Of course, it’s not perfect. The solid end links make it wear longer than the raw specs suggest, which might be tricky for very small wrists. The clasp has limited micro-adjustment, and with 50 m water resistance it’s fine for everyday use, but not suitable for swimming or water sports.

All in all, the Citizen Tsuyosa Small Second NK5010-51X delivers character and refinement at a very approachable price. It takes the strong design language of the Tsuyosa line and adds extra sophistication through the textured dial, small seconds complication, and lively orange accent.

In short: a stylish everyday automatic that puts a smile on your face every time you check the time.
